Editor's note:

We started this series to bring you into the interesting reality we inhabit and have affectionately come to call The Koraverse. Once every month, we’ll take you on a journey so you can learn about all things Kora, i.e. the people and things you didn’t even know were sentient inside The Koraverse.

Today, you’ll get to know Kachi.

Kachi is a reggae rockstar and football lover. She’s also a Chargeback and Dispute specialist in the operations department at Kora. This week, Kachi tells us about her life and time at Kora.

Hello Kachi! You’re always smiling, and it’s so refreshing tbh. Would you consider yourself a perpetually happy person?

Yes, I definitely would. Regardless of what I might be going through, I always choose happiness.

I dig it. Let’s talk about your Kora experience. When did you join Kora, and why?

I joined Kora on the 13th of December, 2021. At the time, I wanted to work with a startup but also needed a platform that would let me unleash the knowledge and experience I’d gained in the financial industry over time. So when I researched fintech startups, Kora stood out for me. Joining Kora has taught me what it means to build a team and processes from scratch, develop documentation or user requirements and make effective decisions, etc. Kora lets me spread my wings. And everyone is always ready to help as long as you are ready to learn.

What does the future at Kora look like for you?

I don’t think there is a cap on what I can accomplish at Kora. I will keep creating value and advancing my career in the fintech industry. When people talk about dispute resolutions, I want Kora to be mentioned alongside the greatest to ever do it. It’s one thing to develop a product, sell it to clients, and generate revenue. And it’s another thing to maintain the revenue without a chargeback team that understands the nitty-gritty around dispute resolution and the risks.

When you say “nitty-gritty”, all I can think about is you and your team running on a battlefield, dodging bullets and grenades.

Lmfao! Throw a few bazookas in there, and then you’d be accurate!

What would you say is the best thing about working at Kora?

The people and the culture. The culture allows every individual within to thrive. Everyone is available and willing to support you in whatever you do. If you encounter any hiccups on the job, you can reach out to anyone you think could be of help, and you’ll get the help you need without hesitation.

Let’s talk about your job title. Did you always want to be a Chargeback Analyst?

No, actually. I always wanted to be a financial analyst or an accountant. But I’m not far from the roles I wanted because I apply the knowledge I gained from studying accounting to my current job. As a Chargeback Analyst, I am a financial investigator, risk analyst, and problem solver. I enjoy analysing risks and questioning everything around dispute resolution.

Oshey! Enola Holmes no do pass you!

She could try, but she could NEVER! Lmao

What’s your favourite thing about your job?

It’s seeing customers happy. In this case, happy means that the customers haven’t lost money. Another thing I love about my job is that I understand the intricacies of payments from the first layer (transaction processing) to the last layer (chargebacks). Also, as a Chargeback Analyst, I interact with colleagues across different organisations.

What’s something (big or small) that you’re superb at?

I am good at researching and investigating. Finding gaps and improving processes. I also love training people. I am where I am today because I got trained, so I love imparting knowledge.

How do you relax when you’re not working?

I listen to music.

What genre?

Reggae. Especially Lucky Dube’s music. I can listen for hours. I also love sports. I’m a big football fan.
