To show our commitment to fostering the next generation of African tech talent and supporting Africa's digital transformation, we recently partnered with Google Developer Groups Owerri (GDG) to organise a hackathon. The event was designed to bring together developers of all skill levels to create innovative tools using Kora's APIs to benefit businesses across the continent.

The hackathon, which also served as a safe space for coders to share ideas and stay up to date on the recent trends in tech, took place virtually and went on from the 19th of March, 2023, to the 30th of March, 2023.

The event kicked off on March 10, 2023, with six teams competing for the grand prize::

‍

• Ace
• Code Crusaders 
• Thrive
• PathFinders 
• Mavericks
• Simple

‍

After 12 days of brainstorming, building, testing and tweaking, three teams made it to the winners’ podium: the judges announced the winning teams after hours of deliberation. These are the winning teams: 

‍

• Overall winners - Mavericks: This team created a product named "Mavericks", a platform for buying gift cards. 

‍

• 1st runner-up - Code Crusaders: This team built a platform for purchasing health insurance named "Lifecare." The team described it as a way to make advanced payments in times of emergency healthcare.

‍

• 2nd runner-up - Thrive: This team created a product named “njangi,” a mobile app they described as the Cameroonian version of a Rotating Savings and Credit Association (ROSCA).
