Editor's note:
We started this series to bring you into the exciting reality we inhabit and have affectionately come to call The Koraverse. Once in a while, we’ll take you on a journey so you can learn about all things Kora, i.e. the people and things you never knew were sentient inside the Koraverse.
Get to know Teju.
Teju is the People and Culture Manager at Kora. She's a bubbly ball of sunshine who is fantastic at dealing with people, incredibly detail-oriented, and the queen of multitasking.

How you doing, girl?
I’m doing great. Thanks for asking. I’m living, loving, and thriving.
Just like Julia Roberts in that one movie where she lives, loves, and thrives. “Eat, Pray Love.”
I haven’t seen that movie, but I will take any comparison to Julia Roberts! LOL
LOL! So tell me. When did you join Kora, and why?
I joined on the 1st of March 2021. The reason why is going to sound extremely cliché but bear with me: I was searching for a new challenge. I did several interviews then and reached the final stages for three companies. I went with Kora because it aligned with what I was looking for. It was a company that had never had a Human Resource department. Nothing screams CHALLENGE more than that. LOL
You’re right. Building an HR department from scratch sounds like one hell of a challenge.
EXACTLY! Also, upon speaking to Dickson (Kora’s CEO) and Gideon (the then COO), I got a sense of the kind of company they were building, a place where HR had a voice and wasn’t riddled with limitations. If you know HR, you’d know how important executive buy-in is, so I was willing to give it a shot.
Do you feel like you made the right decision?
Oh, I did. There’s no doubt in my mind.
What’s the best thing about working at Kora?
The people. The people are amazing. They keep me coming back every day.
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
My fave part of my job is dealing with people and their wildly different personalities.
Hold up. That sounds like each person that works at Kora has multiple personalities.
LOL. That’s not how I meant it! What I’m saying is that Kora has many employees with different personalities. And because I deal with these personalities, no day is the same for me. I find that super interesting.
What’s something that you’re really good at?
I’m pretty good at organising and keeping track of things, even while multitasking. I'm quite detail-oriented, so I excel at keeping things in order and making sure nothing gets lost in the shuffle. This comes in handy in many different situations, both professionally and in my personal life.
What does the future for you at Kora look like?
The future is bright and beautiful! Kora is expanding and going global, so I see myself growing to the point where my team and I have to manage and work with thousands of employees of different nationalities. Honestly, I can’t wait!
